Why do good people suffer? Are God’s judgments always fair? Does He judge us the way we judge others?
Often, we judge people based on situations that we believe to be real, only to find out that things are completely different than what we’ve imagined. It can be tempting to think that we’re better than our neighbor, but the reality is that we only deceive ourselves. By casting judgement unto others, we hurt not only their soul, but also ours, causing wounds which may never heal.
But then, if God is righteous, why do pious men endure a life full of sorrow and pain while sinners who disobey His commandments have everything going well for them?
In the second book of The Patristic Heritage Series entitled How God Judges People, Elder Cleopa answers the questions above and many more, illustrating how limited and distorted our human judgement is compared to God’s Divine Judgement.
